33 Coupe Interior 60        1/23/05

Here you can see how much the hardware will be hanging down, or in this case, not at all. I did it this way so I wouldn't bump my head going in and out of the car. I can reach the latch easily and once it's released, you just slide the rod out of the other side and lay it down. Now that the window net is finished, it's time to work on another part of the interior.

I had to share this shot of the mountains while standing in the garage. I like how the red and pink from the sunset was casting those colors on the snow toped mountains. Yeah....I'm a sucker for a good sunset.

One of the last things to do is the carpet and like the rest of the interior, I haven't done this either. Now because I have four places that the roll-cage will be passing through the carpet, I didn't know how to finish it in that area so it would look right, so I called a good friend of mine, Paul, to help me out. Paul used to have his own business doing upholstery awhile ago but has since sold all his equipment. He also did a seat for me in an old truck of mine which came out great. Paul and I go back a long ways as we went to school together and we've been friends ever since.

The first thing he did was break out some pattern paper to make a template of the floor which would later get transferred to the carpet. Pattern paper is about twice as thick as butcher paper to give you an idea of what it's like. I removed my seats, gas pedal, break pad and steering column so we had some room to work. Then we started cutting and taping paper together to cover the entire floor. We made the cutouts for the brake pedal, steering column, shifter and four places where the roll cage meets the floor. One of the most critical places when doing carpet is covering the transmission tunnel. If that's not done right, everyone sees it, and no one wants that to happen so this is where Paul comes in. One thing that will be in our favor is the center console. A console can hide a few things like the cut that will be going from the front of the carpet all the way to the rear of the shifter. Now if I didn't have a console, that cut would be much shorter and would have to be in just the right place. Speaking of being in just the right place, there is a cut-out on the tunnel that will tricky because that part will show even with a console.

Before any carpet was cut, we used the pattern to cut some insulation and then glued it down. The insulation ended up just a little to short so I pieced it together from some scraps that I had left over to make up the difference.
