This is how the cut-outs look that will let the back of the speakers clear the support. I made the cuts with a jigsaw and this will also let the air pass through to the under-side of the floor.

I cutout some of the insulation and covered the firewall with it which was a very easy task. I then took a razor-blade and trimmed it to the outer edges. One nice thing is that if you need a small piece on a panel that you didn't have enough for after cutting it from the roll, you can just place the new piece next too your last one and your good-to-go as it's like having ONE large piece when your done. I then transferred the mounting holes through the insulation and made little cutouts for the screw heads that hold the firewall in place. I also found out that this stuff "bends" with the panel that it's stuck too and then springs back once you have the panel back in place which is how the firewall has to be installed. I'm going to cover the floor with it next and then the inside of the rear fenders.

I also covered the bottom of the trunk but not all the way to the wheel-wells. The reason for not going all the way across is that I still have to make some holes for the down-bars that come off the main hoop once the rollcage is installed and this will make cutting out the holes that much easier. Once the holes are cut, I can come back and cover the remaining surfaces with insulation. The bending of the cage should take place this weekend so I'll be able to show you that process very soon. I've been working around the cage bending for some time now and I'm running out of things to do so this will be a good thing.

I really didn't like the fuel cell that I bought, not because of the color, it's more the look that it has and I wanted something that would maximize the space inside the trunk a little better so I decided to make my own gas tank. What you see below is a cardboard mock-up to see how it would look and this is what I came up with. This will be 23" wide X 13 1/2" high X 15" deep and will hold 17 gallons compared to my other tank which held 15 gallons. I'm going to make this out of .035" sheet metal and weld the whole thing together out of five pieces. I'll also be adding a sump to the bottom which I'll cover later. Let's take a look at some of the components that will make up the new tank.
