33 Coupe Paint 6        7/03/05

There were a few pieces of aluminum that I wanted to polish so they would look nice against the purple anodize, so I took them off and fired up the buffing wheel again. The throttle stop bracket, TPS (throttle position sensor) bracket, throttle cable fittings and the throttle stop were all treated to some luster. One thing I did was use a 1/4-20 X 3" long stainless button head cap screw for the throttle stop in place of the old hex head screw and I filled in the cap screw area with stainless with my welder. After welding it, I made it nice and round to keep the shape the button head screw already had, and then polished it too. All those parts look real nice now. It's hard to see all those pieces in this shot, partly because of the flash bouncing off the polished aluminum washing out the picture.

One other thing I sent off to get coated was my exhaust system. The place I sent them too is called JetHot. JetHot uses a ceramic coating that goes inside and outside of the tubing. Now coating the exhaust system serves two purpose's. The first is looks, and I have to say, they came out great. The second is that JetHot claims that this coating will reduce the outside of the header tubes up to 50% which means it will reduce the temp of the inside of the engine compartment by a couple hundred degrees. Now that's some great news because my engine compartment is very small so this will help a bunch. The color is called Sterling but you can get other colors if you want. The coating will withstand up to 1300 degrees F and will add horsepower by up to 3%. How can it add power you ask? By keeping the exhaust gas's hot, the gas travels faster which equates to more power as it gets out of the tubes faster. JetHot can explain it much better than I can so go here for more info. I also had the header adapter done which are made out of aluminum and go between the head and header tubes.

As you can see, I sent the entire exhaust system to get ceramic coated and I'm very happy with the results. The only thing I didn't send them was the mufflers because there're made out of stainless steel which means they're not going to rust and now the rest of the exhaust system won't either. This sure makes a difference on how the whole exhaust system looks.

I opened the garage the other morning to install the radiator and liked how the engine looked, so I snapped a quick shot of it (yeah I'm trip'n, but everyone already knows that). Once the radiator is bolted up, I won't have this view anymore. If you look close, you can see the different colors in the paint which means your seeing the pearl at work.
