This looks better and it should
provide a little extra clearance when I start to build the headers. The
two wires will be going to the starter soon.

The Edelbrock water pump was next inline to be
installed so out of the box it came. The first thing I did was replace
the bolts that came with it to some nice polished ones that I had bought
awhile back. I took the pump over to the engine for a quick fit before I
        gooped-up the gaskets.

Well I should have known that this was
going to smooth. After using the gaskets that came with the pump (the
thin ones on the left), the back of the pump where the six bolts are hit
the timing cover. Now these bolt heads are not sticking out that far and
was just hitting so I thought about making some spacers but then ran
across some thicker gaskets that I had so I tried them. Hot damn they
worked!! Now the difference in thickness was about .030"
(1/32") but was enough so this is what will be used. Now go
figure....something as simple as a water pump and it doesn't fit. Well
now that "bad luck" has reared it's ugly head again, I can
proceed with the rest of the install and hope things go smoothly.

These aluminum pipe plugs will be used
to plug the holes in the water pump where heater hoses will someday go.
What I plan to do is get the car running and then worry about heat/AC
        some other day.
