33 Coupe Transmission 6        12/30/03

The dip-stick for the transmission needed to be installed so I could fill it with trans fluid and Lokar got the call again like the engine (dip-stick) has. Lokar makes a nice piece and it's easy to work with.

This is the dip-stick rod which is made out of plastic and has the "Add" and "Fill" marks molded in on the end. I needed to shorten the stick by about five inches so the first thing that I did was measure how much stick was sticking out of the tube before I cut anything. This way I could cut the tube to length, slide the stick back in, see how much was sticking out and the cut off the needed amount that was measured earlier.

As you can see, the stick has three parts to it, the stick, sleeve (white) and handle. There is a set screw on the side of the handle that holds the sleeve in place. The sleeve has a slot that the stick goes in and when the screw is tightened, the sleeve acts like a clamp to hold the stick in place. By cutting the end that goes in the sleeve, you can achieve any length you need.

Moving over to the tube, I needed to take off the end, which is threaded together. After unscrewing the two, I slid the top coupling out of the way and made a mark on the tube where I needed to cut it.
