One of the things I noticed the other
day was a crack that formed in the firewall. There are three bolts that hold the
steering column to the firewall and the crack goes from the top bolt
down to the 2" hole that the column runs through. I'm not sure how the
crack formed but I better do something about it now before paint. The
three bolts that I had in there had washers on them which distributes out the
load so I figured that I needed something a little larger than just a
washer. I could always fill the crack and then paint it but I have a
feeling that it will come back so I plan on covering this area after it's fixed
        and painted.

I started with a piece of paper and
made a pattern that would encompass the three bolts. After making the
pattern, I didn't like it because it was so plain looking so I started
drawing and cutting till I came up with something I could stand to look at.

After transferring the pattern to a piece
of .100" aluminum, I cut out what you see below. I used my hand
drill, hack-saw along with a couple of files to produce the cover in a couple of
hours. I plan on sanding it a little smoother and then plating it so it will
contrast with the shiny bolts and column because like I've said before,
        I don't like shiny-on-shiny.

Now that the steering column has been
addressed, notice the brake pedal and how big the hole is next to it. I
need to cover that opening because of how large it is. If you remember
		some
time ago the opening had to be this big so the brake pedal would go
through the firewall (at an angle). Now it's time to do something about
that ugly hole that's next to it so out comes the paper again to make a
        pattern.
