Here is what it looks like tack welded
on. It covers the cables now and after I remove the rails, I can fully
weld and sand them. One other reason that I'm doing this is because I like the
look of the car with the hood sides off so this way the cables won't
show. I plan on working on the other end too once I remove the
        rails.

While I was working in the hood area,
I decided to attach the hood sides a little differently because like I
said before, I like the look of the car without the hood sides on but will
want to have them on for certain accessions too. The way I attached them
        awhile ago was
with 1/4" studs which is fine except there're hard to get at so I
decided to make my life easier when I wanted the sides off.

The way I'm going to fasten the hood
        sides are with these

Dzus fasteners. Dzus fasteners are used for attaching
panels that need or want to be removed fast. The fasteners have two
parts and come in a bunch of styles and sizes but they all have one
thing in common, to release them you only have to turn them 1/4 turn.
The first part consists of a rotatable stud with a spiral cam which
engages on to a spring or receptacle. The second part is called the
spring plate which the stud locks on too. I
plan on using two per hood side which will be located at the bottom of each end. To attach these fasteners you can either screw them on, weld
them on or rivet them on. I plan on using screws and rivets for my application
and I'll be cutting and shaping the spring plates a little too.

I was having trouble with the front
fasteners location till I came up with this idea. To hold the fastener
in the right location while I removed the hood side, I used a magnetic
base. A magnetic base is normally used for holding a dial indictor but
it worked great for this (you come up with some ways of doing things
when you work alone). Once I put a mark around the outside of the Dzus
fastener, I found the center and then drilled a 3/4" clearance hole.
I used rivets to fasten them to the hood sides.
