Bullet Clock  6                                              06-2020

Final touches Continued

I removed all the blocks and then put my personal brand on each one.

Painting

I used some flat black spray paint for the sides and back. And I used some of the leftover targets to paint on. But to make sure the clocks were on a nice flat surface, I'm using my large flat oak desk top with a brown sheet to protect it while painting.

This worked out great because there wasn't any overspray on the clock face. On the right is the paper target.

More Gluing

Now that the painting is done, it's time to attach all the bullets. Here I'm using lacquer thinner to clean all the brass before using any epoxy. This way the glue has a better chance of sticking.

I'm using 60 minute epoxy to give myself extra time to work with. And I'm using my workbench to mix this on because it has a large piece of sheet metal on it. Once I finished each clock, I used the lacquer thinner to clean up with.

I'm using some small paint brushes to apply the epoxy, which worked out great. Dab some in each groove, place a bullet on the clock and then make sure it's flush with the outside diameter. Each clock took about 15 to 20 minutes to glue so that wasn't too bad.

Clear Finish

The next day I coated each one with some matte clear finish, in my outdoor paint booth. This was to make sure the bullets didn't oxidize over time.

Assembly

The following day I installed the clock mechanisms.

This shot is to give you a good idea of how the clock mechanisms work. The first one to go on is the hour hand (C) but loosely for now. Next is the minute hand (B) which has a slot in it. This slot ends up being fixed in place and is held in place by that small nut. Once you have the nut tightened down, I adjusted it to the 12 o'clock position and then moved the hour hand to match it. Then I pressed the hour hand in place to finalize it. Last is the sweeping second hand (A), which is just a press fit as well.

You have your choice of color as well: one side is white and the other is black. The sweep second hand is red in my case, but when I was buying them, there were more color choices and different lengths.
