One of my favorite places to be is in
the mountains, and this last show that we attended was held in Oak
Glen, CA. which is located in a remote part of the San Bernardino
National Forest. To give you a little history about this place, Oak Glen
is known for their world famous apples (the elevation is above 4000
feet) and there are many orchards in and around this small community.
Apple season runs from Labor Day through Thanksgiving, just in case
		you're wondering. Another nice thing
about Oak Glen is that it doesn't get as hot at this higher elevation
which is a good thing because in July and August, the temps can be down
right brutal where we would normally have a show. The event was
held at Law's Coffee Shop and it was their 7th. annual that was held on
July 27th. The show ran from 7
am to 3 pm but to get a good parking spot you better get their early. We
arrived before six and had a spot all picked out from last year but that
area was reserved for someone else so we parked in the front this time.
Law's Coffee Shop is famous for their apple pies and if you ever get
a chance to stop by you won't be disappointed. The food at Law's is
very good too and I highly recommend their club sandwich and split pea
soup. Speaking of eating, they had a killer buffet breakfast
(every Saturday) that goes till 11:00 am and then they switch over to
		their lunch menu.
The show also had a DJ from 99.9 KOLA radio named Vic Slick that
played old school Rock & Roll all day. The show is free for spectators
and our entry got us an event T-shirt, goodie bag, a discount coupon for
Law's and a dash plaque. They also had a nice raffle tables, one for the
kids and the other for everyone else.
There were about 120 cars, trucks and bikes this
year which made for a good turnout. Let's take a look at some of the hot
rods that made this years show.    |
