The 5th Annual Cheery Fest car show sponsored by the Beaumont Kiwanis
Club was held on Saturday, May 29th at Stewart Park in Beaumont. This
show is one of our favorites because it's on the grass and it's in our
neighboring town so it's close by. This show had a large raffle, 50/50
drawing, vendors, food and games for the kids. One of the things that
Larry and I like to do is get raffle tickets together so we get more for
our money. But today was even better because we know a guy that goes to
most of the shows and he likes to collect a few dollars from about 15 to
20 people which ends up getting us about twice the amount of tickets for
the same amount of money. That's the good news but for some reason the
people running the drawing that day got the raffle and 50/50 tickets
mixed up so we were told to take ours and trade them in for the other
type of tickets. One thing leads to another and the next thing you know
there were a whole lot of people mad at the whole thing. All I know is
that we got our tickets exchanged but the unlucky people that bought
50/50 tickets had big problems because now they didn't know how much
		money should be in it.
The turn out for this show was pretty good but came in just shy of
last years and again there were other shows going on around the area
which might have been the reason.
I did something different for this show this year, I didn't register
my car. The reason is because I've won an award here for the past four
years and I thought I'd just come out and be a spectator this time. Now
I don't know anyone doing the judging or running the show, I just didn't
like the thought of winning that many times in a row. To me this sounded
like a good idea but one person didn't like it to much and he let me
		know about it.
I happen to be standing near by when one of the judges walked around
my car and Larry looked at me and said, "are you going to tell him?" I
walked over and explained to the judge what was going on and he
understood. While talking to this judge for a minute, the head guy from
the Kiwanis Club came by and told me to leave if I'm not going to enter
my car. I told him 'no problem that I'd be leaving in a few minutes' but
I was wondering why the whole time.
Once this guy had left, the judge said to me, "that was BS" and told
me to stay here that he'd be right back with an entry form for me to
fill out. I told him not to worry about it because I didn't want him to
pay for me and he said again not to worry that all he wanted from me was
to fill out an entry form. Once I had the form filled out, he said that
he'd drop off my packet to me and if I wasn't at my car, he'd leave
		inside it.
Larry and I walked around for awhile and when we got back to our
cars, sure enough my entry was on the floor and my packet was on my
seat. Now I didn't expect anything other than my entry but this judge
went the extra mile and included everything I would have received if I
had paid to enter. The packet included a meal ticket for lunch, a ticket
to get into the Cherry Festival and a T-shirt.
Later on I saw that same judge again and thanked him for all that he'd
done for me. And I also paid him for the T-shirt because I didn't want
any money coming out of his pocket. What a nice guy and I didn't even
		find out his name.
Let's check out the show because I took a lot of pictures.
