| The following weekend there was
another show over in San Bernardino at a place called Juan Pollo. This
show was held in the parking lot of there restaurant from 4 to 8pm on
Sept. 9th. hosted by the "E. St. Cruizers".
Let me give you a little history about "E Street". "E St." is one of the main
        streets in downtown San Bernardino
and was a place where all the cruis'n use to take place back in the day. The
length of the cruising area was about a mile or two long and it would be
packed with hundreds of cars. Most people would turn around in this old Mc. Donald's restaurant on the north part of
town and cruise back down. Now this old Micky D's was one of, if not the, first one built in
Southern California (at least that's how I've heard the story) so it has
        a lot of history.
I use to drive my 71 Camaro (now Larry's
car) up and down this street back in the late 70's and early 80's.
looking at all the cars and at all the women. After I would make a lap
(which use to take about an hour) I use to find a place to park (there
were a few vacant lots around to park in back then) and watch everyone
drive by. But before I would park, I would've been in more then
one race on one of the back streets going who knows how fast. I
remember how fun that was but now that I'm older, I realize how dumb it
        was at the same time.
        I also remember a time when I was kick'n
it in one of these empty lots with a buddy of mine watching all the cars go by when this girl
was walking on the other side of the street. She was wearing some
painted-on white pants and a real tight fitting top when this guy in a
        nice
Corvette drove by. This guy had his head turned all the way around
checking this hot girl out and didn't notice the light had turned
red. Yep, you guessed it, he
crashed into the back of a truck and did some major damage to his car. I
couldn't help but laugh along with a bunch of other people there that
night. The girl was oblivious to the whole thing
that had just unfolded but she did see fiberglass being scattered all over the
street along with plenty of fluid from his cooling system. I'm sure this
scenario has happened to a lot of people but this one took place right in front
of me. The guy in the Corvette got out wondering what just happened
and wanted to blame the whole thing on somebody else. After a few
minutes, he realized that it was his fault and started to cry because as it
turned out, his car was new. I sure did have some good times over there.
Returning back to the the car show. This was my first
time attending this place and it turned out to have some very nice cars. It was just Larry and I this time as everyone else was busy doing
other things. I met some very nice guys there and we exchanged a few stories. I learned a
couple of things from one of the guys parked next to us
and if I go back, I hope to see them again.
At the end of the evening, the Top Ten awards were
handed out and Larry and I didn't here our names called. But the last
award for the night went to me for "Best of Show". After
receiving the award, I had the honor of pulling a ticket for the 50/50
        drawing. I didn't win it.
Now if I show up to next months show, I get a
special parking spot with a sign that says "Best of Show
Winner" along with a date of last months car show. How cool is that!!
As we left the show, we cruised down "E St." on our
way home and it brought back some cool memories, even if there's no
more "cruis'n" like it was back in the day. And to make
it even more special, seeing my old car on that street again took me
right back to the good old days.
         They have this
show every 2nd. Saturday of the month so if you happen to be in the
area, stop by and check it out.
