Step Stool 1

My granddaughter is two years old (as of this writing) but she will be turning three at the end of May. And when she comes over to visit, she is asked to wash her hands before she eats dinner. But that's hard for her to do by her self, which means someone needs to hold her up to the sink to help with washing. And once she is ready to go home, her mom helps her brush her teeth...again holding her.

This is where I decided to make a step stool so she could do both of those tasks by herself. And while I'm at it, I'll be making two of them. The second one will be for our son Tony and his wife, because they will need one in about one year.

The one that will stay at our house will be made out of pine (below) but Tony's will be made out of oak and maple. And I plan on adding a little something extra to them later. The size of the stools will be 15" L X 12" W X 11" high.

The first thing I'll need to do is glue some pieces together to end up at the size I need. To help with that I'm using my biscuit joiner. I used three #10 biscuits on each piece.

Here are two of the sides clamped during the glue process.

I happen to have a nice piece of maple on hand and only needed to be trimmed a small amount. This will be the top.

Here I'm using my milling machine to square the piece.

This is a small piece of oak that will need to be glued to another piece to get the right size.

I ran everything through my thickness planer to make sure things were the same size.

This is my new table saw and I should have bought one of these years ago. Here I'm cutting some pieces to size..

I'm putting a 10 angle on all the bottom pieces with a miter gage. After using the one that came with the saw, I'll be getting a better one soon.

Here I'm putting a 10 degree angle on all the bottom of the side pieces. This surface is where the tops will sit, so they need to match so the top will sit flush.
