Miter Saw Work Stop Continued

Here you can see that my work stop is maxed out. However, at this point my DeWalt stand would take over by sliding the support towards the saw (arrow).

Here you can see how easy it would be to make a bunch of small pieces. The work stop works great and was easy to make.

Miter Saw Stand Improvements

On page one I talked about improving the DeWalt mobile stand. What I'll be doing is adding one more gas shock to it. And to do that, I'll need to make some brackets. Here I'm laying out some lines that will be my bend points. I'll need two brackets, one at each end of the gas shock but they won't be different sizes.

Here is what I have so far. Now I'll need to add some holes and slots. The piece of aluminum is something I made to help bend the two pieces around.

Here is my new gas shock along with the brackets that I made. I shot some black paint on both so they don't rust as well.

I'm using 3/8" bolts to hold the brackets on with in place of welding them. I also made the inside of the brackets slightly larger than the bolt head so it doesn't spin when I'm tightening the lock nuts down.

Here you can see one of the lock nuts after drilling a hole through the stand.

Looking under the stand you can see the second gas shock in place. Now the stand is much easier to get into the upright position which is a good thing. However, it takes a lot more effort to collapse it now, which I can live with.

One other item I made was a place to hang my work stop. I just cut the head off a 1/4-20 bolt, bent it and used two nuts to hold it in place.

Now the work stop won't get lost as the hook keeps it in place, even while I'm using the saw. These small improvements made a world of difference for my needs, and they were fun to make.

Here is what it looks like folded up. You can move it around like a dolly and it's very stable in this position.

The feet of the base act like handles to move it easily and store it out of the way. So far I'm really liking this miter saw and recommend it to anyone that might be thinking about buying one.
