Christmas Candy Canes  1                                                7-2023

My daughter Angela bought a bunch of these plastic candy canes for an Escape Room decoration but in the end she didn't like them. She asked my if I'd wanted any and I gladly excepted six of them. At the time I didn't know exactly what I was going to do with them, but as time went on, I thought they would look nice in my front yard during Christmas time.

My plan is to put some LED's inside these plastic canes and then line the walkway with them. I already had some LED's on a roll but I'd needed more to complete this project. By the way, this all started in the summer while it was hot, which seemed kinda weird to work on Christmas stuff at that time.

Here you can see they are about 32" long and are about 1" in diameter. These should be perfect for this project.

What you see here are some ground stakes that I had leftover from some landscape lighting and wondered if they were the right size for my candy canes. And sure enough, it was like they were made for them because they had a perfect press-fit on those black plastic stakes. Oh, I won't be using the brown piece, this came with my landscape lighting.

I placed all stakes next to the walkway equally spaced apart.

Next it's time to drill a hole for some wiring. Below you can see my mark at two inches from the bottom.

I used a 7/16 Forstner bit which went very fast.

Then I snapped in some rubber grommets.

At this point it was time to start on all the wiring. The arrows are pointing to the LED strip that goes into the canes. The length for the LED strips are 39 inches.

My workbench is pretty busy here. But everything is all wired and lights up.

I bought a project box to place all my wires inside of. Think of this box as an electrical junction box. Around the perimeter are removable rubber plugs that you can use for a variety of scenarios, like running wires through them. This should work good for my use.
